A number of Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to praise Reds ace Thiago Alcantara for his superb performance in Friday’s FA Cup third-round win over Aston Villa.

The Spanish ace joined Liverpool in September but only made two appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s side before Christmas due to either injury or illness.

He was eased back into action in Liverpool’s last game of 2020, getting 17 minutes off the bench in the goalless draw with Newcastle, before playing the full 90 minutes against Southampton.

Klopp opted to name Thiago on the bench in Friday’s game at Villa Park, which saw the hosts field an Under-23s side following an outbreak at their Bodymoor Heath training ground.

Despite Liverpool being heavy favourites to win in the Midlands, the young Villans held their own in the first half as Louie Barry’s 41st-minute goal cancelled out Sadio Mane’s early opener.

Thiago was then brought on in the second half and instantly improved the Reds with his passing range and vision, speeding up the play and having a hand in all their second half goals.

And plenty of Liverpool fans were delighted with the 29-year-old’s display:

Liverpool ran out 4-1 winners as Georginio Wijnaldum put the Reds ahead on the hour mark, Mane got his second of the night three minutes later, and Mohamed Salah rounded off the scoring on 65 minutes.
