It appears that Everton are closing in on Danish international goalkeeper Jonas Lossl. He is out of contract at Huddersfield Town this summer. According to Foot Mercato, Everton are closing in on the goalkeeper. The same news has since been reported by numerous outlets.
It would seem that Lossl is being signed as a potential back-up to Jordan Pickford. Which would surely mean the end of Maarten Stekelenburg’s Everton career?
Marco Silva told the Liverpool Echo how impressed he has been with the former Dutch international’s application in training this season earlier this month. However, he has played just twice for Everton this season.
“The first thing I have to tell you, because it is the truth, is that he has been fantastic since the first day.
“Big credit to him for that. And he will be fantastic until the end because we are talking about a very, very good professional.”
Signed by his former Ajax and Southampton boss Ronald Koeman he has never managed to hold down a full-time spot in the Everton starting XI.
He still has another year left on his Everton deal. However, he will now drop down to third-place in the keeper department at Goodison Park. With youngster Joao Virginia also pushing through, the Dutchman will have to consider his future at Everton if he wants any first-team opportunities.
