Lyon’s sporting director Juninho Pernambucano has been discussing two current Arsenal players, as the Gunners reportedly eye up a move for a certain Lyon star.
Arsenal have recently been linked with a move for Houssem Aouar, who has been in fine form for the French side in recent times. It has even been reported that Matteo Guendouzi could be offered in exchange.
The Brazilian has now confirmed that Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is a fan of the French international. However, Lyon are not keen on Arsenal’s misfit, so no swap deal is likely.
“I get along very well with the sports director (Edu), we spoke on the phone,” Juninho told RMC Sport. “He is really appreciated by Arteta. There have been some discussions for Matteo who is also a good player. It was mentioned during the discussion. But this is not the profile we need, we were very clear. If it’s like that, we don’t care at all, that’s what we stopped.”
But Juninho was not done there when discussing Arsenal players.
He also mentioned a phone call he had with Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette regarding a potential six-month loan spell at the club last season. However, he admitted that wages made it impossible to get done.
“In January, I called Alexandre Lacazette to chat a bit with him because he was having a bit of trouble with Arsenal and I said: ‘Why not a six-month loan with us where you’re going to have a blast? Play all the matches and score goals like you can? And then you go back to Arsenal or elsewhere. ‘
“But as long as you look at the contract level of these players, like at Juventus or Barça, it’s not for us today.”
Arsenal fans will no doubt be hoping that the club can somehow manage to do a deal for Aouar, however, his current asking price of around (The Sun) £54 million makes any deal look very unlikely.
It is just a shame that Lacazette’s wages are not manageable at Lyon, as not many Arsenal fans would begrudge that swap deal.
