Luke Murphy will want to get one over Leeds United and Marcelo Bielsa

Leeds United take on Bolton Wanderers at the weekend. The game is a massive one for Leeds, as are all their remaining fixtures in the Championship. Leeds dropped to third in the Championship recently, out of the automatic promotion places.

It came after Norwich City and Sheffield United gave relegation-threatened Bolton and Reading a thrashing recently. Leeds now must do the same against the Trotters on Saturday to keep up their pursuit of promotion.

One Bolton player who might have extra reason to get one over on Leeds is Luke Murphy. The Independent reported that Leeds spent £1 million on the talented Crewe player back in 2013.

Murphy, however, struggled in recent years at Leeds and spent time on loan at Burton Albion over the past two seasons.

In the summer, Marcelo Bielsa decided there was no room for the 29-year-old. He was granted a release from his contract and ended up joining Bolton.

Murphy described being back at Leeds in the summer as a ‘bad situation’ to the Bolton News, as it was clear Bielsa had no plans to reintegrate him into the first-team like he did with Mateusz Klich.

It has been a tough season for him at the UOB Stadium. Murphy spent many months out-of-favour but has recently been recalled to the first-team under Phil Parkinson. It means this is the first time he has a chance to get back at his former club since leaving permanently in the summer.

Leeds fans will not hold much fear for Murphy, whose work-rate often made up for his qualities. However, the added motivation could see him put in a strong display against Leeds.

If he dealt them a damning blow in the race for promotion, it would certainly be an extra sickening one at Elland Road.
