Luke Ayling’s partner has posted a short video on her Instagram story confirming the defender is currently suffering from illness, and that could see him ruled out of Saturday’s clash against Blackburn Rovers at Elland Road.
Ayling, 28. has only recently returned to action after finally overcoming an ankle injury which dated back to the summer, where he underwent surgery to correct the issue. He has started Leeds’ last five league games.
He has been used at centre-back and on the right side of the defence, and many Leeds fans have been impressed with how quickly he has developed match fitness despite being out for so long. He was a shoe-in to start against Blackburn.
But Ayling’s partner – Poppy Weller – has confirmed on her Instagram story on Thursday night that the defender is unwell and that could see Ayling miss Saturday’s clash, as Leeds look to return to the top of the Championship table with three points.
TBR’s view – Barry Douglas could be Ayling’s replacement
Indeed, if Ayling is unfit to play, then the chances are that Douglas will return to the starting line-up. Bielsa confirmed that £3million signing (Sky Sports) Douglas is fit again.
Leeds should use Stuart Dallas at right-back, Ben White and Liam Cooper in the middle and Douglas on the left side of the defence. Tyler Roberts’ goal should see him start alongside Matuesz Klich, in front of Kalvin Phillips.
Pablo Hernandez may come in for Helder Costa while Jack Harrison starts on the left behind Patrick Bamford.
