Luke Ayling raves about “special” 24-year-old Leeds attacker
Leeds United defender Luke Ayling has raved about the ability of teammate Raphinha, albeit he couldn’t help give him a comical dig about the size of his leg muscles.
Raphinha, 24, has had a mesmerising first year in English football that has seen him shine at Elland Road.
The right-winger has six goals and eight assists in 30 appearances for the Yorkshire club.
As well as his goal contributions, the left-footed attacker is a flair player that the Whites supporters instantly fell in love with, and some fans will get to watch him live this weekend in the home match against West Brom.
The Brazilian wide player may not be muscular, but he uses his body so effectively to get past opponents. His trickery and speed is a real nightmare for defenders.
Ayling has given a glowing verdict on the quality of Raphinha:
“I’ve tried loads of times [to get the ball off Raphinha]. You think you’ve got it, then it just goes through your legs,” Ayling said.
“You look at him and there’s nothing to him. His calves are like my forearm, there is nothing to them. HIs upper body is nothing. He rolls into you and worms away from you. Serious player.”
Raphinha has turned out to be one of the best signings of the Premier League this season, and from day one has looked like a Leeds player.
He’s got the speed, stamina and work rate that suits Marcelo Bielsa’s system. There is no doubt though that he adds an X-factor to the squad that strikes fear into opponents.
Leeds are guaranteed a top-10 finish in the league this season going into the final day on Sunday, which should give them a great platform to try kick on next year with their talented squad.
