After two full seasons with Leeds United, defender Luke Ayling had become an important first teamer at Elland Road.
But the 27-year-old has been inconsistent at times during his third campaign with the Yorkshire giants and even struggled in the early stages of Marcelo Bielsa’s reign.
The right-back suffered an injury layout midway through this season and hasn’t quite been able to find his best form.
Ayling has though turned the corner though in the last couple of months and silently hit top form amid the chaos of the play-off race.
He is now back to his best defensively by becoming dependable and solid again, while he’s an excellent attacking threat too when he bombs forward.
Leeds do now have to go through the dreaded play-offs after the last game of the league season to Ipswich Town and need to try lift themselves.
Automatic promotion was taken away from them after a blip at the worst time, but they could still be playing Premier League football next year depending on their next few games.
Ayling’s return to form is vital to Leeds and he’s one of the players that could be so important in the play-offs.
He will show an excellent work-rate and the fan favourite is going to be needed defensively against some quality opponents.
The Whites may not be in a perfect state ahead of some mammoth fixtures, but Ayling has his game in order and is playing his best football under Bielsa right now.
He has five assists under his belt so far this campaign and is a great option out wide that Leeds utilise.
