Luka Modric’s Harry Redknapp comments should give Mauricio Pochettino inspired Christian Eriksen idea

Luka Modric was named the winner of the Ballon d’Or yesterday, breaking the stranglehold over the trophy held by both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. It was a deserved win for a player who helped Real Madrid to another Champions’ League win and inspired his nation Croatia into a World Cup final.

After winning the award, he paid special praise to former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp.

“Change of position helped me a lot in my career. I used to play more offensively.

“When I dropped back, I was able to read the game better and show my creativity. Harry Redknapp made that change.”

Now, whilst the 71-year-old might currently be sulking around the jungle in this year’s edition of ITV’s near-masochistic reality show I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, he will no doubt be pleased to hear such warm words once he heads home from down under.

But should Mauricio Pochettino consider the words of Modric and apply them to Christian Eriksen?

The Dane has been in fine form this calendar year. But with Tottenham currently looking to replace Mousa Dembele, perhaps Eriksen is the solution already at the North London club.

Perhaps dropping him into a deeper role could see him excel at a higher level in the same way it did with Modric.

Real Madrid want Eriksen, and their aim seems to be to do just that, as a potential Modric replacement. Tottenham, clearly do not want to sell. Proof of this comes in the reported €250 million (£222.5m) asking price they have slapped on the Dane, according to Marca.

Pochettino should certainly start to consider if Eriksen could be the solution to so many problems in a deeper role than the one hw currently operates in.
