Remarkable news this week in Spain has suggested that Luka Modric is considering his future at Real Madrid. According to Diario Gol the Croatian is planning for his next move away from Spain and would like a return to England. The report mentions Liverpool as one potentially interested team, but Modric would prefer a move back to London.
Which is where Tottenham come in.
Tottenham are mentioned as another potential destination for the player. Of course Modric is a hero in North London after his excellent four years at the club. He left for Real Madrid in 2012 in a deal worth £30 million, according to the BBC. Since then he has established himself as one of the best midfield players in world football.
If Tottenham have a chance of bringing Modric back to the club it is an opportunity they must not pass up.
Spurs’ main weakness in the recent Champions League exit against Juventus was their lack of experience. Whilst Juve had dominating forces like Giorgio Chiellini and Andrea Barzagli in their team, Tottenham had nobody in the team with their level of expertise and experience.
Modric could be the influence that Tottenham need to thrive. The 32-year-old could have the same impact Andrea Pirlo once did when at Juve. The steadying influence in midfield who has the experience of winning titles that Spurs need to start adding trophies to the brilliant football they have played under Mauricio Pochettino.
Tottenham start a new era next season in their brand new stadium. Bringing in a slice from their past could be the missing piece of the jigsaw to take Tottenham to the level they have not yet reached under Pochettino.
If Modric is keen on a return to London, then Spurs must take the opportunity to bring the former hero back.
