Mislav Orsic scored a sensational hat-trick for Dinamo Zagreb on Thursday night as the Croatian side ripped up the pre-match script and knocked Tottenham Hotspur out of the Europa League – and Luka Modric has reacted.
A brace from Harry Kane in the first leg had given Tottenham a first-leg advantage, winning 2-0 in North London. It was pure expectation that Spurs would cruise into the last eight of the competition – but a shock was on the cards.
Orsic, 28, was the architect of the upset. He opened the scoring in the second half, scoring a beautiful effort from the edge of the area that looped over Hugo Lloris and into the top corner – a goal worthy of winning any match.

It was 2-0 before the full-time whistle, and the match went into extra-time – thanks to Croatia international Orsic. Then, during extra-time, Orsic broke from the left, cutting inside and lashing a brilliant effort into the net.
There was still time for more drama. Defending for their lives, Zagreb through bodies on the line to stop Harry Kane, Gareth Bale and Carlos Vinicius from finding the back of the net – despite it looking easier to score.
Modric, a Dinamo Zagreb legend having come through the academy before joining Tottenham, took to Instagram to praise Orsic as one of his old clubs helped beat another of former sides.
His message says: “Bravo mate, what a game.”
