Luis Suarez’s injury absence might be the lucky break Tottenham need

According to Sky Sports, Barcelona striker Luis Suarez will miss Tuesday’s Champions League match against Tottenham Hotspur through injury.

With one of Barcelona’s deadliest attacking talents absent, Tottenham may have been handed a lucky break they sorely need in order to advance to the Champions League knockout stages.

Spurs will definitely make the tournament’s last 16 if they win at the Camp Nou, and the Premier League side can also advance if they equal Inter Milan’s result against PSV Eindhoven.

Going away to Barcelona is always an unenviable task, especially for English clubs, who are winless in the past 11 years at the home of the defending La Liga champions.

Luckily for Tottenham, Suarez will play no part in the match, easing the pressure slightly on the Spurs defence.

The former Liverpool striker is one of the most lethal finishers in the world and can punish teams for the smallest of mistakes — Mauricio Pochettino is undoubtedly relieved he won’t have to prepare to stop the Uruguayan.

Nevertheless, Spurs must attempt to combat Lionel Messi, whose weekend masterclass in the league showed why he is still arguably the best player in the world.

Yet despite the gargantuan task ahead of Tottenham, the absence of Luis Suarez will provide a semblance of hope for Spurs.
