Leeds United took on Al-Ittihad in a behind closed doors friendly this week and were comfortably beaten by the Saudi Arabian side.

Leeds fielded a mixture of first-team and under-23 players but failed to get a grip on a game they eventually lost 4-2.

One of the scorers for the Saudi visitors might be known to English fans. Luis Jimenez is a former Chilean international who spent a season on loan at West Ham United in 2009-10.

Prior to that he has had made a name for himself in Italy with Fiorentina, Lazio and Inter Milan but has really carved out a niche for himself in the Middle East with spells in the UAE, Qatar and now Saudi Arabia.

But while he was at his Italian peak, Jimenez struggled to get into the Chile national team. At the time, they were managed by Marcelo Bielsa.

Jimenez was a rare selection and as he informed La Segunda in 2012, the pair did not enjoy a good relationship.

“I liked him as a coach, but I didn’t have a good relationship with him, it was rather cold.”

Bielsa is undoubtedly a respected coach but over the years the Leeds United boss has often found himself making just as many enemies as he has friends.

There was certainly a reason why Jimenez looked so happy to have scored thr final goal of this contest against his former boss.
