Liverpool have confirmed on their official website in a statement that they will play December 17’s Carabao Cup clash against Aston Villa, despite having the Club World Cup in Qatar a day later – and Luis Garcia has posted a cheeky response on Twitter.

The Reds were drawn against Aston Villa in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup in a fixture that will take place eight days before Christmas. But just a day later, Liverpool are scheduled to play in the Club World Cup in Qatar.

Obviously, it is near impossible for Jurgen Klopp’s side to play two games in two days – with one taking place at Villa Park and the other in the middle east. But Liverpool have confirmed in their statement that they will utilise two separate squads.

It sees Liverpool currently scheduled to play six games in the space of a fortnight between December 4 and December 18, including a Merseyside derby, a trip to RB Salzburg and the Club World Cup. Garcia has joked he is available to play.

TBR’s view – Tough, but are Liverpool victims of their own success?

Klopp’s side are seemingly victims of their own success as they continue to remain competitive in all competitions they have so far entered in. Indeed, The Reds have lost just one game all season against Napoli.

Being able to reorganise the clash against Aston Villa would be ideal. But in the two-week period as aforementioned, it makes little difference when they play the fixture. The busy Christmas period then comes after that fortnight.

Klopp’s side are up against it because of their fixture congestion, but their success breeds such difficulty.
