Liverpool icons Luis Garcia and Jose Enrique have both paid tribute to Rangers manager Steven Gerrard after the Gers were confirmed as Scottish Premiership title winners – ending Celtic’s pursuit of 10 in a row.
Gerrard has taken a Rangers side that were a considerable distance behind Old Firm rivals Celtic to the title – beating Celtic in their bid to secure 10 consecutive titles. It has seen Rangers clock up an astonishing 55th league victory.
Rangers have been excellent under Gerrard this season. In their 32 league games, Rangers have conceded only nine goals – proving defensively solid but exciting going forward. They remain in the last 16 of the Europa League, too.
Gerrard’s stock is rising and after being confirmed a Scottish Premiership title winner, his name is already being discussed in terms of a Premier League job. Garcia and Enrique applauded their old teammate.
TBR’s view – Where does Gerrard’s future lie?
Gerrard still has plenty to do this season. The Liverpool legend will be desperate for his side to remain unbeaten in the league, starting at Old Firm rivals Celtic next weekend. They also remain competitive in Europe.
Rangers have a chance to really make a push in Europe, drawing Slavia Prague in the last 16 of the competition. Not many would bet against The Gers in winning that tie, and a place in the quarter-finals is up for grabs.
Beyond that, Gerrard looks hungry to win another league title – and is contracted until the summer of 2024. But perhaps, after another season or two – Gerrard could consider a move down south.
