Luis Alberto has stated that his decision to join Lazio from Liverpool is the best decision he has made in his life.
The Spaniard was snapped up by Brendan Rodgers and considered one for the future at Anfield. However, as reported by the Liverpool Echo, Alberto ‘failed to impress’ Jurgen Klopp and was eventually sold to Lazio in 2016 for a fee reported by the BBC to be in the region of £4.3 million.
At the time it did not seem to worry Liverpool fans, who felt Alberto was likely not up to scratch.

However, the Spaniard has gone on to thrive in Italy where he was leading the assist charts prior to the global health crisis-induced lockdown.
Now, in an Instagram interview transcribed by Football Italia, Alberto has made it clear he has no regrets over the decision. In fact, he is very happy he made the move to Rome.
“I didn’t get the playing time I wanted at Liverpool, then I started well (on loan deals) at Malaga and was enjoying my football at Deportivo when I got injured.
“I made the big step up at Lazio, a wonderful club. Joining Lazio was the best decision of my life. Nobody really knew me and that was my fault. I was training by myself at Liverpool, but changed mentality with (mental coach Juan) Campillo and took that next step.”
There are not many mistakes that Liverpool have made in the transfer market over the past few years. Even selling Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona has somehow managed to turn out for the better.
However, in letting Alberto go Liverpool may have missed out on a truly impactful midfield playmaker.
But it appears that Lazio was just the perfect fit for Alberto and that Liverpool, simply, was not. It’s not as if the Reds have been struggling without him now, is it?
