Luciano Becchio claims he has tried to facilitate signings for Leeds in ‘last few months’

Luciano Becchio has told the LUFC Fan Zone podcast that he has tried to secure a couple of signings for Leeds United in the “past few months”, having since entered the world of becoming a football agent following his retirement.

Becchio, 37, earned iconic status at Leeds after scoring 86 goals in 2019 league and cup appearances – helping the Whites gain promotion from League One to the Championship under Simon Grayson before eventually leaving for Norwich in 2013.

His exit, after four and a half years at the club between 2008 and 2013, will always be soured by the fact he was allowed to go in a swap deal for Steve Morison – who flopped at Elland Road. Becchio has since become an agent.

Becchio was asked on the LUFC Fan Zone podcast if he has tried to facilitate any incoming signings at Leeds since becoming an agent – and the ex-Leeds man, as translated by another former White in Fede Bassone, claimed he had as recent as 2020.

“Obviously I am trying to help Leeds. In the last few months, I have been trying to bring a couple of players over there – but it is not easy,” Becchio claimed, with a week now left in the January transfer window.

TBR’s view – Are Leeds expected to be busy this month?

Marcelo Bielsa has confirmed in a press conference that Leeds have not entered the January market and does not expect his side to do so before the window slams shut on February 1. But should Leeds have targeted a player or two?

Cover for Patrick Bamford might have been helpful, while a left-back could be on the agenda come the summer. But after spending the best part of £100million last summer, it was always unlikely that Leeds were going to spend this month.
