The agent of Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira has been discussing the player’s future amid continued links with a return to Italian football.

Most recently it has been Fiorentina linked with his services. La Viola’s sporting director is Daniele Prade, who was previously at Sampdoria where he worked with the Uruguayan.

La Nazione reported this week that Arsenal had informed the Serie A side that Torreira could be available, but for a hefty price-tag of £27 million.

Now, Pablo Bentancur, the midfielder’s agent, has made it clear that the ball is in Arsenal’s court regarding the future of Torreira.

Arsenal have certainly not seen the best of Torreira under Mikel Arteta’s management. The combative midfielder has had to battle some niggling injury trouble this season which has clearly set him back in his progress.

“There are many requests, but still nothing official,” Bentancur told CalcioMercato. “I have received many surveys, even too publicized, but we have nothing written on the table. The player is training with Arsenal, is their property, and is one of the few cases of players coming to England and playing 50 games in a row.

“After he had a bad injury, he didn’t have to undergo surgery but the return was a bit complicated. The coach has to make a technical choice, and he has to decide if he really needs Torreira or not, but all this the press talks about is more publicity than reality. Today the market is a bit stagnant…”

However, he is still fondly thought of among the Arsenal fanbase, even if his performances have dipped compared to his debut season at The Emirates.

It will be interesting to see if Arsenal do end up giving the player’s agent the chance to start discussing a move away from the club. But for now, it seems there is no push from the player’s side when it comes to his future.
