Arsenal could lose Lucas Torreira after his agent admitted that the player would ‘love’ a return to Italy.

The 24-year-old midfielder has become a key member of the squad under Mikel Arteta. Having made 24 appearances in the league this season, Torreira has firmly established himself as a key squad member.

The tenacious midfielder only moved to Arsenal back in 2018 having completed a move from Sampdoria to England.

However, according to his agent, Torreira is already considering a return to Serie A and is open to a move away from the Gunners this summer.

“I will have to speak to Arsenal. The player would love to return to Italy, but it must be acknowledged that Arsenal treated him very well and behaved great,” Pablo Bentancur told Tuttomercatoweb.

After suffering an injury just before the season closed down, Torreira is now fit and raring to go.

“Today he is completely recovered. I believe he will be a market man (meaning he will be high demand when the transfer window opens),” Bentancur added.

Having signed for Arsenal for around £26m (BBC), the Gunners would no doubt look to recoup a big chunk of that money.

And with the current global scenario hitting clubs in the pockets, Arsenal could well be forced to accept a deal.

While the Uruguayan has been impressive enough under Arteta, he’s not exactly lit the place up.

Some good performances here and there aren’t really enough to cement Torreira as a top Premier League midfielder. At just shy of £30m, that is what Arsenal will have expected.

It’s a tough decision, then, for the Gunners to now make. Arteta will want people pulling in the right direction.

Therefore, comments from agents such as this don’t bode well.
