Lucas Torreira and Eric Dier were both on the scoresheet in the North London derby this afternoon. However, the two put in differing performances, which will have Tottenham fans envious.
Torreira’s goal, in fact, highlighted the issue. He dropped a shoulder on Dier, leaving the England international grounded, before smashing the ball beyond Hugo Lloris.
It was a moment that summed up everything that Torreira brings to Arsenal, that Dier doesn’t for Tottenham.
His lack of mobility and creative nous makes him a passenger at times for Spurs. Torreira, by comparison, was a dynamic and disruptive force for Arsenal. He is exactly the type of player Tottenham lack in the heart of midfield when Dier is playing.
Arsenal snapped up the Uruguayan in the summer for a fee of just £26 million, according to The Telegraph. He proved in the North London derby just how much of a bargain that was for the Gunners.
Tottenham fans meanwhile will be wondering why they were not in the running for a player who clearly would improve their options in the centre of the park.
