Lucas Torreira discusses his initial struggles and best game as an Arsenal player

Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira has shared the main factor he struggled with upon moving to English football, having failed to fully establish himself under Unai Emery.

He did also tell the club’s official website about a game which may well be his favourite in a red shirt, when he scored in a north London derby win last season.

Torreira said: “The main thing for me to adapt to was the tempo here. When I arrived, I felt like I was lacking something, like the game was being played at a much faster pace. Now, I feel very comfortable.

“There was also that unforgettable match against Tottenham. I remember the week leading up to it – the fans really made us understand how important the derby was. I experienced it all in that game and was able to score a really important goal to secure the win for the team. It’s obviously a goal that I’m going to remember forever.”

TBR’s View – Torreira will hope for better under a new manager

Emery inherited a squad which needed a combative defensive midfielder. He signed one in Torreira, but then didn’t show enough faith in him and kept trying to convert him into a playmaker for some reason.

The midfielder will hope that whoever the new manager is can play him in the right role and back him ahead of Granit Xhaka at the heart of the engine room.
