West Ham United are closing in on the signing of Lucas Perez from Arsenal. The Hammers are set to complete a cut-price £4 million move for the Spaniard, according to the Mirror. The former Deportivo La Coruna star will provide competition in attack for Marko Arnautovic, Javier Hernandez and Andy Carroll at West Ham.
The move could also be good news for Aston Villa fans. Steve Bruce’s side have been linked with a move for West Ham’s Jordan Hugill in recent weeks. The Sun recently reported that the Championship side were keen on bringing the player to Villa Park this summer – with Leeds and QPR also keen.
West Ham reportedly paid £8 million to sign Hugill from Preston North End in January but he has hardly featured for the Hammers. New boss Manuel Pellegrini does not seem to be keen on the 26-year-old and it appears he is available.
For Aston Villa, it would be a great signing. The club need striking reinforcements. The man who bagged most of their goals in the second half of last season was Lewis Grabban. They could not afford a permanent deal for the striker earlier this summer and he headed to Nottingham Forest.
Scott Hogan remains out with a groin strain and Aston Villa need a new striker. Perez’s bargain move to West Ham could hand them the chance to get Steve Bruce’s ideal target.
