Lucas Paqueta sends three-word message to Bruno Guimaraes after he returns to Newcastle United action last night

West Ham United midfielder Lucas Paqueta has now sent a three-word message to Bruno Guimaraes on Instagram after he returned to action for Newcastle United last night.

Newcastle returned to competitive football once again after the World Cup last night as they booked their place in the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup.

The Magpies overcame a resilient Bournemouth side 1-0 after Adam Smith put the ball in his own next in the 67th minute.

Guimaraes was one of four Newcastle players to return to the starting line-up after being at the World Cup.

Callum Wilson, Kieran Trippier and Nick Pope were also given the nod by Eddie Howe as he prepares his side for the return of the Premier League.

It wasn’t a vintage Newcastle performance last night but Howe’s men managed to get the job done while not playing at their best. The Magpies boss also got the opportunity to give some of his World Cup stars some much-needed game-time after none of them featured heavily for their national sides in Qatar.

And Guimaraes’ Brazil teammate Paqueta has now sent him a three-word message on Instagram following his return to St James’ Park.

Paqueta sends message to Guimaraes

Guimaraes took to social media last night to express his delight at being back with the Newcastle squad.

He wrote: “Happy to be home!! How I missed here. Proud of the qualification! And Merry Christmas to everybody.”

And Paqueta responded beneath the post: “Play hard buddy,” alongside a heart emoji.

Of course, the pair are very close friends after playing together in France for Lyon. They were both part of the Brazil side that crashed out of the World Cup in the quarter-final too.

Guimaraes didn’t feature in the knockout stages of the tournament but did make two appearances from the bench in the group.

The 25-year-old will have certainly benefited from getting 88 minutes under his belt last night as Newcastle prepare for their Boxing Day clash with Leicester City.

Howe will be hoping last night’s game will serve as a good run-out for his squad and that they will raise their level of performance ahead of a tough trip to the King Power Stadium.
