Lucas Moura says Tottenham are working on a signing that would be ‘wonderful’ for Thomas Frank

Lucas Moura left a legacy at Tottenham.

The Brazilian famously scored a 96th-minute winner away at Ajax to fire Spurs into the 2019 UEFA Champions League final, also sealing his hat-trick with that remarkable late strike beyond Andre Onana.

They were three of 39 goals in 221 appearances for Tottenham – also providing 27 assists.

Another Brazilian could soon end up at Tottenham in Rodrygo – and Lucas Moura thinks it would be a “wonderful” move for Spurs if a deal materialises.

Lucas Moura hails Rodrygo

Speaking to AS ahead of the UEFA Super Cup between Tottenham and PSG on Wednesday, the 32-year-old said: “Rodrygo’s arrival would be wonderful for Tottenham, and he’d certainly like to play in the Premier League for a team that, as I said, has a fantastic structure. A team that’s getting stronger and stronger, growing to compete in Europe. It would be good for both sides, but it won’t be easy for Rodrygo to leave Real Madrid, given the interest from other clubs.”

As Lucas states, there is plenty of interest from other sides in Rodrygo – who TBR Football understand is open to joining Tottenham this summer with Spurs ready to make the South American their highest earner.

Tottenham face fierce competition for Rodrygo

Winning the UEFA Europa League last season – and consequently qualifying for the UEFA Champions League – has given Tottenham a shot at this deal, which otherwise might have been impossible when you consider the calibre of other sides interested.

TBR Football have been informed that Arsenal and Manchester City are also keen to sign Rodrygo – and he is just as open to joining either of the Premier League duo as he is Spurs.

Real Madrid want a fee in the region of £70m to sell the Brazil international – who they paid £39m to sign from Santos back in June 2018 when he was just 17.

It would be a significant financial commitment from Tottenham, although the deal comes with a seal of approval from Lucas – who played one game for Brazil with Rodrygo.
