Tottenham Hotspur star Lucas Moura has claimed that he has been playing through pain despite being declared fit to return from his injury.

The Brazilian, branded as a ‘dangerous player’ by Jermaine Jenas, suffered an injury to his tendon after featuring for just 12 minutes in the first two games of the season. He didn’t play again until last month, but he has started two Champions League games in a row now, which made fans believe he’s back to full fitness.

However, Lucas claims he’s still in pain.

Lucas Moura says he’s playing through pain for Tottenham

Tottenham have had terrible luck with injuries recently.

Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison have been out for a few weeks now, while Son Heung-min has joined them on the sidelines after suffering a facial injury. Cristian Romero has also missed the last three games, which is making Antonio Conte’s job a whole lot harder.

Lucas’ return is a huge boost for Tottenham considering all the injuries in the wide areas. The Brazilian has started each of Tottenham’s last two Champions League games, while he has featured in the last four Premier League fixtures as well.

However, the Brazilian has now revealed that he’s not fully fit yet. His tendon injury is still causing him pain, but Lucas has claimed that he can manage that and will continue playing.

He said, as per The Daily Mail: “I’m happy because I’m back and I can help the team. It’s difficult to get my best form in just a few games but, step by step, I will get there.

“It’s my tendon in the heel. I keep doing the treatment to play and I can play with the pain, that I can manage. The most important thing is for me to be on the pitch, doing what I love to do. Sometimes but it’s normal for a football player because it’s difficult to play without any pain. We are used to playing with injuries.”

Tottenham haven’t been playing well at all this season, but they’re still in a fantastic position.

They finished as group winners in the Champions League following a dramatic victory over Marseille earlier this week, while they’re just five points and two places behind the top of the Premier League table.

Injuries really have been a pain to Conte, but they deserve immense credit for the results they’ve picked up so far. Now, they need to kick on if they really want to achieve something special.

Spurs’ next game is against Liverpool on Sunday, and even though the Reds have been awful this season, they are more than capable of blowing any team away. Lucas and co will have to be at their best to get anything from the game.
