Tottenham blew a 2-1 lead with 10 minutes to spare against Southampton last night and Lucas Moura was not a happy man after the game.
Southampton were brilliant yesterday. Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men turned up to North London and played without any fear. They pushed Tottenham back with their pressing and were arguably unlucky not to go into the break with a lead.
The Saints had 23 shots on goal of which 10 were on target. Spurs, on the other hand, only had six attempts at goal and were accurate three times.
That makes it clear that Southampton didn’t deserve to lose yesterday, but if Tottenham were a bit more clinical in attack, they would’ve picked up the three points, even though they didn’t play particularly well.
Lucas Moura: Tottenham missed chances to kill the game
Moura came out for an interview after the frustrating defeat and it has to be said that he was disappointed.
Even though it was poor defending that cost Spurs the game, the ex-PSG man felt that the attackers missing their chances was the biggest reason why Southampton picked up the win.
The Brazilian said after the game, as per a video posted by Tottenham’s official Twitter account: “I need to say, we had two or three chances to kill the game and we miss it.
“I think it was our biggest mistake today. Let’s think about Sunday now. We need to show a reaction quickly.”
TBR View:
Conte would’ve had a go at his defenders after the game and rightly so. Emerson and Davinson Sanchez were both really poor and conceding twice in the last 10 minutes, especially when they were in the lead, is not good enough.
However, even though their defence was as bad as it was, Tottenham would’ve won the game if they had converted their chances.
Sergio Reguilon failed to get his shot past Fraser Forster in what should’ve been an easy goal, while Harry Kane made a meal of a header that he would’ve usually buried.
That cost Tottenham big time and it ould prove to be a real blow to their top-four hopes.
