Tottenham Hotspur have a chance to quickly get back to winning ways on Tuesday night when they face Brighton and Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium. Spurs will be looking for a response after their 3-1 defeat at the hands of the newly-crowned Premier League champions Manchester City.
Tottenham also have a big game at the weekend, as they face Manchester United in the FA Cup semi-final. That could certainly afford Mauricio Pochettino an opportunity to make some rotational changes to the first-team squad.
One man who deserves a chance for Tottenham against Brighton is Brazilian attacker Lucas Moura.
Signed from Paris Saint-Germain in January, for a fee reported by the BBC to be in the region of £23 million, he has had to bide his time for chances at Spurs.
Moura has, in fact, played just 48 minutes of football in the Premier League, from three substitute appearances.
His cameo against City at the weekend was, however, one of the brighter points from Tottenham’s display. It was a game in which both Heung-min Son and Erik Lamela struggled, so Moura certainly should be in with a shout of starting against Brighton tomorrow night.
Spurs are looking assured of a top-four spot and whilst finishing as high up in that race is a priority, the main aim for Spurs this season should now be the FA Cup.
Pochettino will undoubtedly want to play one of his more trusted attackers over Moura in the semi-final clash, as Spurs finally look to some silverware to mark their brilliant three-year form. Moura can easily come in and do a job for Spurs if Lamela or Son need a night off.
Tottenham fans also want to see him in action. So far he has been a bit-part player, but from what they have seen Spurs’ fans are excited about his future.
Tomorrow night he can hopefully get the Premier League start fans want to see. If he can put in the type of virtuoso performance he is capable of, then perhaps he can play a vital role in the final games of the 2017-18 campaign.
