Lucas Digne has won Ligue 1 and La Liga in a career that has taken him to Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona but says his first goal for Everton was the best personal moment of his career.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Digne also gave his thoughts on Everton’s top six credentials after another impressive summer of spending.
He said: “The best personal moment in my career, it was my first goal at Goodison. I was so happy with the goal. Last season, we finished well and we played well against the biggest teams.
“We can do something this year. If we start better than last year maybe we can finish up. Every time the team changes and it is good for competition. We can do better with them. We have a big ambition this year. We are building something. We are building something to be better and better. I think we can do something this year.”
TBR’s View – Everton are as well-placed as anyone to break the top six
Wolves were best of the rest last season but have the Europa League to contend with this time around and have not invested as heavily as expected to increase the size of their squad in light of that.
Leicester and West Ham have pretensions but Everton have been building towards cracking the top six for a number of years now – they have to be considered the favourite.
Digne’s excitement for the club and the direction it’s going in is apparent – if more players match the quality he showed in his first season, the Toffees could well crack the top six.
