One of the frequent questions asked at Everton over recent years is how they will eventually replace legendary left-back Leighton Baines in the side at Goodison Park.
The 34-year-old defender has been a tremendous servant for the Merseyside club and has naturally started to slow down after being one of the Premier League’s most consistent full-backs in the last decade.
Baines has been faded out by manager Marco Silva this campaign and made just eight first-team appearances.
Everton paid Barcelona £18million (BBC) to sign left-back Lucas Digne in the summer and his seamless transition into the XI makes him brilliant value for money.
Digne has taken over the Baines role to great effect this season and been one of the top performers in the Toffees squad.
The 25-year-old is making his near-£20million price tag look like a snip considering the current transfer market and should have a long-term spot in the team.
He’s made 33 appearances across all competitions this term, scoring three goals and supplying five assists in return.
Digne has already become a fan favourite in just under a year to highlight the fact he has a tremendous work-rate and should only get better moving forward.
The France international has the technical ability to make the difference going forward with his crossing and shooting, while the speed machine is defensively reliable too.
