Luca Thomas posts on Instagram after signing Leeds scholar deal, has left Manchester City to do so

Luca Thomas has posted on Instagram after putting pen to paper on a first-year scholarship with Leeds United. The young attacker has left Manchester City in order to sign on with the Yorkshire club this summer. He is one of 10 teenage scholars to sign, along with ex-Liverpool talent Cuba Cline.

Thomas, 16, is a winger or a striker coming through City’s academy. But having seen Leeds and their Under-23 side win Premier League 2 Division 2 as champions, he might have thought his development is better served at Elland Road. A deal was expected to go through.

Rumours surfaced back in April that Thomas would leave Manchester City for Leeds, and sign a two-year scholarship. Still only 16, Leeds have a couple of months until his 17th birthday before they can agree a professional deal with the attacker. Now, Thomas has posted on Instagram.

What next for Thomas at Leeds, after Manchester City exit?

Initially, Thomas will be looking to link up with the Under-18 side. The Whites will be hoping for a much better showing over the next 12 months, with Leeds finishing 12th place in a 13-team league after 24 games. The 23’s, though, gained promotion to the top tier of Premier League 2 football.

That could be where Thomas has his sights set. If he is to break in, he will have to get past the likes of Max Dean, Liam McCarron, Stuart McKinstry and Crysencio Summerville. But there is plenty of hype regarding Thomas and in a couple of seasons, he could be a regular with the second string.

In other Leeds news, Victor Orta has jetted into Italy. The Leeds chief to thrash out a deal for £26million-rated Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nandez.
