A representative of Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren is in Italy to discuss a potential transfer for the defender to AC Milan (via Milannews.it).

Predrag Mijatovic – an intermediary for Lovren’s agent Vlado Lemichas – has been spotted in Milan where talks are expected.

The future of Lovren has been unclear in recent weeks, but it would appear that his exit could now be on the cards.

The Croatia international played only a bit-part role in 2018/19, with Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk Jurgen Klopp’s main centre-back pairing.

When Gomez broke his leg, Joel Matip was the man Klopp put his faith in with Lovren contending with his own injury issues.

The 29-year-old set the Reds back £20 million in 2014 (BBC Sport), and the club want £25 million if they are to sell this summer.

TBR’s view

Lovren has received a lot of criticism over the years and is prone to making errors.

If Liverpool were able to command £25 million for his transfer, then that would be great business for a player who is about to turn 30.

The £100,000-a-week former Southampton man (Spotrac) has had some good moments for the club down the years. He potentially could still do a job for the team as a deputy.

But perhaps now is as good a time as any to cash in and reinvest in somebody a bit younger.
