Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish has been praised by Gary Lineker, who lauded his “wonderful” performance for Dean Smith’s side on Wednesday night despite their defeat.

The 25-year-old has been sensational for Villa over the years, and Smith’s decision to make him captain in early 2019 after his return from injury certainly reaped dividends.

Not only did the attacker help drag the Villans into the playoffs and back into the Premier League, but he played a huge role in keeping them there last season.

Villa have kicked on massively since last term and remain in the top half of the table, although their form has slipped somewhat in recent weeks, with three defeats from their last four.

On Wednesday night, they fell to a 3-2 defeat away at Burnley, despite twice taking the lead.

Ollie Watkins opened the scoring for the visitors in the 14th minute, only for Ben Mee to equalise early in the second half.

And although an inspired Grealish put Villa back in front on 68 minutes, Dwight McNeil and Chris Wood struck quickfire goals on 76 and 79 minutes to claim all three points.

The claret and blue talisman once again looked a cut above and earned praise from Lineker during the game:

Up next for Villa is a trip to Southampton on Saturday night.
