'Love to play with you': Bruno Guimaraes wowed by £20m Newcastle ace after last night's win
Newcastle United reached the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup thanks to their 1-0 win over Bournemouth on Tuesday.
The Magpies dominated proceedings against their Premier League opponents in their last-16 tie at St James’ Park.
However, Newcastle struggled to break down their opponents’ defence, only doing so with a second-half own goal.
Cherries captain Adam Smith inadvertently headed into his own net on 67 minutes following Kieran Trippier’s superb delivery.
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe opted for a strong starting XI which featured all five of his World Cup participants.
Trippier, Nick Pope, Fabian Schar, Bruno Guimaraes and Callum Wilson all started the game against Bournemouth.
It proved an inspired decision as Newcastle edged closer to a first major trophy since 1955.
Meanwhile, Allan Saint-Maximin came off the bench on 57 minutes in place of Joe Willock.
After the game, Guimaraes took to Twitter with a message saying how much he loves playing alongside the £20million star.
Great to see such camaraderie between two of Newcastle’s most exciting players and fan favourites.
While Guimaraes’ World Cup dream wasn’t to be, he’s back at a club with an exciting future and plenty to play for this season.
In the space of 12 months, Newcastle have gone from relegation near-certainties to Champions League qualification candidates.
And those two have played a big role in transforming the Magpies’ on-pitch fortunes.
