‘Love this’, ‘Yes please’: Some Celtic fans excited as they are linked with 29-year-old at PL club

Celtic reportedly have an interest in Mat Ryan at Premier League club Brighton – and some of the Hoops fans on Twitter are excited by the transfer speculation.

According to the Scottish Sun, new Bhoys manager Ange Postecoglo is targeting a move for the goalkeeper.

The report explains Scottish giants Celtic have the 29-year-old on their radar. However, Premier League giants Arsenal are also keen.

Additionally, the Australia international is viewed as surplus to requirement now by parent club Brighton.

Ryan spent the second half of the campaign out on loan with Arsenal. But, they now want him back on a permanent basis.

The shot-stopper wants to ensure he’s playing at next year’s World Cup, so linking up with Australian compatriot Postecoglo to play regularly could be one way to boost that.

Vasilis Barkas and Scott Bain are the senior goalkeeper options for Celtic going into next year. As a a result, Ryan should fancy his chances of being above them both in the pecking order.

Mat Ryan seems a popular target with Celtic fans

A selection of Celtic supporters on social media believe Ryan would be an upgrade in net for them.

Firstly, the goalkeeper has experience in both domestic and European competitions. For instance, he’s played 124 Premier League matches, as well as 24 Europa League games. Secondly, Celtic need to build again after seeing Glasgow rivals Rangers take the league title away from them last season. Finally, they need to find a defensive resilience that has disappeared somewaht.

If manager Postecoglo is to be a success at Parkhead, he needs a number one goalkeeper he can trust. Above all, he’s got to get this summer’s transfer window right.
