Liverpool have announced that Reds academy defender Owen Beck has signed his first professional contract at Anfield.
The 17-year-old, who hails from Flint in Wales, joined Liverpool’s academy from Stoke City four years ago.
Beck, whose great uncle is Liverpool legend Ian Rush, has featured in all but one game for the Reds in this season’s Under-18 Premier League.
He broke into the U18s team in the 2019-20 campaign, playing as a left-back with a licence to get forward.
Beck was particularly impressive in the 6-1 Merseyside derby win over Everton at Finch Farm and he also netted a stoppage-time winner in the 3-2 win at Southampton in the Premier League Cup.
The Wales youth international was also part of the Reds’ U19 squad which finished top of Group E in the UEFA Youth League, winning four of their six matches.
Liverpool made the announcement on Wednesday and plenty of Reds fans took to Twitter to congratulate him:
While Liverpool’s academy teams aren’t in action for the foreseeable future, the Reds first team returns to Premier League action on Sunday 21 June away at Merseyside rivals Everton.
