A number of Tottenham Hotspur fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Ryan Sessegnon’s Instagram snap following Spurs’ loss in their Champions League last-16 first leg.
Sessegnon joined Tottenham from Fulham last summer to much fanfare, given his exploits for the West London club.
However, the 19-year-old’s maiden season at Spurs has turned out to be a disappointment so far, a hamstring injury keeping him out of action until November.
Since then, Sessegnon has been in and out of the Tottenham first team, with just six Premier League appearances this term and 11 in all competitions (Transfermarkt).
In wake of Son Heung-min’s surgery and injury layoff, Sessegnon had been mentioned as a potential replacement, but Jose Mourinho poured cold water on a potential switch up front.
“My thoughts are that Troy Parrott is not ready and Ryan Sessegnon is not a striker,” Mourinho told Football London during his pre-match press conference ahead of the RB Leipzig game.
Indeed, Sessegnon wasn’t even in the matchday squad as Spurs fell to a 1-0 defeat on home soil, courtesy of Timo Werner’s penalty.
Late on Wednesday, the youngster shared an image of himself in the gym, and some fans had their say on this possible “message” to Mourinho:
Clear message from @RyanSessegnon? 👀

If anything i like how the players’ mentality has changed. Saw Hugo’s interview, he didn’t even wanna be man of the match. I see progress

I don’t get why this is praise worthy… he’s sitting in his gym posing for a photo.
