'Love it': Tyler Morton reacts to 'class' news out of Liverpool

Liverpool have announced that Oakley Cannonier has signed a new long-term contract at Anfield.

The 18-year-old has been rising through the Reds ranks in the past few years.

Cannonier has moved up to Liverpool’s Under-23s this season following a prolific 2021-22 for the U18s.

He broke the 40-goal barrier last season, with 28 goals in the U18 Premier League North.

Cannonier only penned his first professional deal on Merseyside in July 2021.

Now, just over 12 months on, Liverpool have moved to tie him down to fresh terms.

Cannonier took to Instagram to celebrate his new contract:

And many of his peers, including Tyler Morton, James Balagizi and Stefan Bajcetic all congratulated their teammate:

Cannonier was once best known as the ball boy who ‘assisted’ Trent Alexander-Arnold for his legendary quick corner against Barcelona in the 2018-19 Champions League.

But now, the teenager is truly making a name for himself as a footballer, and has all the makings of a top player.

The Athletic claimed last summer that Liverpool coaches have compared Cannonier to Philippe Coutinho.

This is due to his ‘slight frame, low centre of gravity, nifty feet and deadly finish’.

Cannonier is certainly a player to watch in the coming years.

If he becomes as prolific in the U23s as he was for the U18s, then an EFL loan move – or maybe even a fast-track Liverpool breakthrough – surely beckons.
