Tottenham’s season could be ripped apart in January if they lose key defender Toby Alderweireld in the next transfer window.
According to the Mirror, Barcelona are eyeing the 29-year-old ahead of the window window and are keen to bring in a new centre-back.
The report details that the Spanish giants have a long-standing interest in the Belgium international, while Manchester United have also been mentioned as potential suitors.
Alderweireld’s long-term future at the North London club is certainly not settled, as his current contract is due to expire at the end of the season.
But allowing the world-class defender to depart midway through the season could be a catastrophe, as he’s still a vital player in the side and is set for a major role in the coming months during Jan Vertonghen’s injury absence.

Spurs have to ensure they bring in a quality replacement for Alderweirled if his inevitable departure takes place, but trying to find that player in January could be a tough ask.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side should be looking to keep him until the end of the campaign, as he can play a big role this season and it would also give them time to find a suitable replacement.
Spurs need to get the most out of Alderweireld – who earns £80,000-a-week, according to spotrac.com – while they still can.
