Losing Christian Eriksen to a Premier League rival would be horrific for Tottenham

Tottenham fans have their fingers crossed that Christian Eriksen is going to sign a new deal with the club, as his current contract is due to expire in 2020.

That has reportedly seen a host of elite clubs begin to circle for the key midfielder.

According to AS, Real Madrid are extremely keen on landing the 26-year-old creator, while Barcelona and Chelsea could rival for his signature if he’s to be on the move.

It is understood that the likes of Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain were previously keen on him before his move to Spurs too.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side need to do everything in their power to keep the Denmark international and pay him top wages to reward his consistent displays.

But there is a right way to oversee his exit if he is to depart.

Spurs simply must not allow Eriksen to join a Premier League rival, as that would be shooting themselves in the foot.

The central midfielder would be able to slot into any team in the top six of English football and there is no doubt he has the technical quality to make Chelsea a better team.

It would be unimaginable for Spurs fans to picture Eriksen in a rival shirt further down the line and it would be suicidal to directly strengthen a main competitor.

Eriksen is an all-action midfielder that can slot into anywhere on the park without looking flustered and a worst-case scenario of losing him should see the club demand huge cash for a switch abroad.
