'Looks great, looks strong, looks sharp': Marsch says £10m Leeds ace is ready to explode this season
Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch has revealed that Patrick Bamford is raring to go for the Whites this season.
The Leeds striker spent most of last season on the sidelines due to a number of injuries.
Bamford made just 11 appearances in all competitions last season, with a foot injury ending his season in March.
Leeds managed the 28-year-old’s fitness carefully throughout the summer and pre-season.
Bamford has made four friendly appearances over the past few weeks.
And last time out, against Cagliari, the £10million man scored twice and captained the Leeds side.
It was the first time Bamford had completed 90 minutes in a match since suffering his foot injury earlier this year.
His return to action is a boost for a team eager to hit the ground running in the Premier League this term.
Leeds will be without seven first-team players on Saturday, when they host Wolves at Elland Road.
At his pre-match press conference, Marsch was asked about Bamford.
“Massive,” Leeds Live quotes the Whites boss as saying.
“Huge week for him. Looks great, looks strong, looks sharp.
“Good thing is having Patrick closer to 100 per cent helps us work tactically with what he needs to look like.
“Looks great and fit, psychologically excited and we have a great player on our hands.
“Not quite 100 per cent, but close.”
Marsch was also asked about balancing Bamford and Joe Gelhardt in the squad.
“They will dictate that more than anything,” replied the American.
“If Patrick is fit and strong, which he looks, then he will play a lot of minutes.
“I have to be cautious he has not played a lot in 10 months.”
