'Looking to sell': Gold claims Spurs want to ditch '£42m' player, Conte seemingly not keen

Tottenham Hotspur have made several top signings this summer.

However, they’re also looking to offload players surplus to requirements.

Spurs full-back Sergio Reguilon is reportedly one of those players.

Last season, the 25-year-old fell out of contention under Antonio Conte.

The Tottenham manager often preferred Ryan Sessegnon at left wing-back.

Spurs have also brought in Ivan Perisic, seemingly pushing Reguilon further down the pecking order.

Worse still for the Spaniard, Conte opted not to bring him on Tottenham’s tour of South Korea.

It was the clearest indication yet from the manager that he will enforce change on this Tottenham side.

Football.london Spurs correspondent Alasdair Gold has now provided an update on the Reguilon state of play.

He spoke of Tottenham’s desire to sell him this summer to offset the fact they now have to start paying Real back.

“Conte just doesn’t see him as fitting his wing-back mould”

Gold took part in a fan Q&A on football.london, and replied to a fan who asked him about the full-back.

“Is it true that Spurs will only begin to pay for Reguilon this window?” asked the supporter.

“So any incoming transfer fee for him wouldn’t really go in the pot so to speak.”

Gold replied: “That’s was I was told, that this was the summer the Spaniard’s fee had to be paid to Real Madrid, or at least started to be paid back.

“So yes, in a way they are looking to sell him to offset that. And I get the impression Conte just doesn’t see him as fitting his wing-back mould.

“It’s also the La Liga club’s last summer to buy him back at an agreed price of around £42m, which looks highly unlikely.”

Reguilon has been linked with a number of clubs in recent months, including Sevilla and Juventus.

There’s little down he’s now surplus to requirements at Tottenham, so the club needs to find a solution for him.

At the same time, Spurs will want to get a good deal for Reguilon, mindful that he’s a good asset.

Reguilon is young, talented, and has been capped for Spain, so there’s no reason for him to go cheap.
