On Sunday, Liverpool took on Lyon in their Dubai Super Cup clash at the Al-Maktoum Stadium.

The Reds took the lead after less than a minute, making the most of an opposition defensive error.

Mohamed Salah received the ball inside the box to the right-hand side.

He then drew Anthony Lopes out of the Lyon goal and squared it to his left for Fabio Carvalho to tap home.

Liverpool could’ve gone 2-0 ahead on 14 minutes when Roberto Firmino won his side a penalty.

However, Lopes kept out Salah’s relatively tame effort from 12 yards out.

Liverpool went on to concede just before the break, this time through a defensive mishap of their own.

Caoimhin Kelleher and Andrew Robertson got their lines mixed up when dealing with a long ball over the top.

This allowed former Arsenal ace Alexandre Lacazette to get past them and level the scores.

In the 65th minute, Lyon took the lead through Bradley Barcola, who was set up by the impressive Tete.

And seven minutes from time, Lacazette got his second of the day to condemn Liverpool to a 3-1 defeat.

The two teams then took part in a penalty shootout for an extra point.

Lyon scored all five of their penalties, while Calvin Ramsey missed from the spot to hand the French side the victory.

With it being a friendly, you can’t read too much into the display and result.

‘A tidy performance’

Nonetheless, there were some notable positives. One of those was the performance of Stefan Bajcetic.

The 18-year-old started the game in central midfield and gave a great account of himself.

Several media outlets liked what they saw from Bajcetic.

The Liverpool Echo gave him an 8 out of 10 for his efforts.

‘Young Spaniard is looking more and more like a first-team player by the minute,’ they wrote.

‘Snapped into tackles and provided a solid base for the attacking players to build upon in midfield.

‘Harshly booked for a well-timed tackle on Corentin Tolisso.’

Meanwhile, Liverpool World went with a 7 out of 10 rating.

‘A tidy performance from the teenager yet again, although booked for a rash challenge,’ they wrote. ‘Subbed at half-time.’

90Min also gave Bajcetic a 7 out of 10 for his display.

‘Added plenty of bite to Liverpool’s midfield, even if he did pick up a yellow card for his troubles. A good cameo from the youngster.’
