A number of Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to praise Douglas Luiz’s latest impressive performance for Dean Smith’s side on Wednesday.
Villa travelled to St James’ Park to face Newcastle United and brought a point back to the West Midlands thanks to a 1-1 draw.
The Magpies took the lead in the 68th minute as substitute Dwight Gayle rattled home a tidy finish, Ezri Konsa caught out in the build-up.
However, another substitute – Ahmed Elmohamady – went on to salvage a point for Villa through a skewed header from Conor Hourihane’s cross.
While several Villa players flattered to deceive on the night, Luiz was once again a cut above in claret and blue.
The 22-year-old was not only impressive in possession but carried out his defensive duties flawlessly, stifling opposition counter-attacks and making several key blocks.
Needless to say plenty of Villa fans waxed lyrical about Luiz during and after the game:

Douglas Luiz has been a monster since the restart.
Maybe it’s the slower tempo, maybe it’s the reports of him getting to grasp with the language.
Either way, he’s a shining light in the side at the moment.

Yes he’s looking much more assured. Presumably he won’t be with us next season though ?♂️

Top footballer playing with average players. Just needed time to settle.
