'Look out for Newcastle': Journalist now has interesting transfer update for Magpies fans

Newcastle United are reportedly worried they could be under intense scrutiny in the upcoming transfer window.

This is according to journalist Dean Jones, who told the Ranks FC podcast he doesn’t expect the Magpies to go big this summer.

Newcastle are all-but safe in the Premier League this season following an incredible upturn in form this calendar year.

Eddie Howe’s charges are 14 points clear of the bottom three, having played 34 games so far.

If Newcastle better Burnley’s result at 19th-placed Watford this weekend, the Magpies will be mathematically safe.

With Newcastle now having plenty of financial muscle, the hope is that they will bring in numerous big names to St James’ Park this summer.

However, Jones reckons that “FFA eyes are on them”, and Newcastle will likely “manage this situation carefully”.

“The one thing to look out for Newcastle is that they think they are going to be scrutinised tougher than most other clubs have been when put in this position,” he said. “Think Chelsea and Manchester City.

“There’s big money coming in and FFP eyes are on them.

“Don’t be surprised if some of their business is initially loan stuff just to help them get through this first couple of years.

“They have to manage this situation carefully and they don’t want to get caught out.”

How much could Newcastle spend in summer transfer window?

In March, The Telegraph reported that Newcastle plan to spend around £60million in the summer transfer window.

The Magpies will apparently favour ‘pragmatic ambition’ in the transfer market.

This will allow them ‘room for manoeuvre’ under the Financial Fair Play rules.

Newcastle will reportedly aim to sign players who fit into the club’s current wage structure.

And Howe is apparently aiming to make three or four signings this summer.

Newcastle spent around £90million in the January transfer window.

During the window, the Magpies signed Kieran Trippier, Chris Wood, Bruno Guimaraes and Dan Burn.

Matt Targett also arrived on loan from Aston Villa.
