Long-term reported target Emiliano Martinez heaps praise on Leeds United and Marcelo Bielsa

Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has made headlines this week after confirming to Argentine radio station MARCA Claro that he will consider leaving the Gunners this summer if he slips behind Bernd Leno in the pecking order once again.

He even stated that 10 teams across Europe have shown interest in his services, although did not mention any by name.

However, Leeds United fans will rightly assume they are one of those potential teams.

Leeds have long been linked with a move for the Argentine. Those rumours go as far back as January 2018, when AS claimed that Leeds were closing in on his signature.

They were linked again a year later by The Sun and, most recently, the same publication claimed that Martinez remains on the Elland Road radar.

In the same interview with MARCA Claro, the 27-year-old stopper was actually asked about his feelings regarding Leeds United’s promotion and admitted he had high hopes of the club’s chances in the Premier League next season.

“Nobody wants to play against that team in the Premier (League),” he stated. “They do not stop running, they are well structured, Bielsa is a great coach, he prepares each game against each rival, Leeds will be a surprise in the Premier.”

Leeds United fans will know all too well how impressive Martinez can be. He played a blinder to prevent Leeds on several occasions in an FA Cup tie earlier this year and he has been fantastic whilst deputising for the injured Bernd Leno for Arsenal recently.

Leeds already have two goalkeeping options in Illan Meslier and Kiko Casilla, However, if the controversial Spaniard was to be moved on, then Martinez would be a welcome recruit at Elland Road at the right price.
