Report: Henry advises Arsenal to sign Lokonga
Thierry Henry has advised Arsenal to sign Anderlecht midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga, according to Voetbal 24.
The publication is claiming the legendary figure has helped accelerate the deal.
Reports earlier this week claimed the Gunners are seriously interested in the defensive midfielder.
Anderlecht are demanding a transfer fee between €15m (£13m) to €20m (£17m) for the 21-year-old.
Henry returned to the Belgian national side as Roberto Martinez’s assistant manager earlier in the week. The Frenchman will assist the Spaniard like he did at the 2018 World Cup.
Meanwhile, the Gunners have been linked with a raft of midfield targets this summer.
Yves Bissouma and Sander Berge are on Arsenal’s wishlist to fill the void at central midfield.
TBR View: Henry recommendation enough for Arsenal to complete transfer of Lokonga
Arsenal are in desperate need for recruitment in the centre of midfield.
Dani Ceballo has returned to Real Madrid, meanwhile, Granit Xhaka looks set to complete a move to Roma. It leaves the side with just two senior players in that position.
If the player is good enough for Henry, it should be enough for the Gunners.
Lokonga is a player full of ability and has shone for Anderlecht during his short time at the club.
He stood in as captain for much of last season, a sign of his maturity despite his tender age.
Meanwhile, his ability to carry the ball into opposition territory and shield a back-four makes him the ultimate player
But, with Xhaka potentially leaving in the next few weeks, it proves a hazardous transfer.
The north London giants really need to replace the experienced Swiss ace with a like for like swap. The 21-year-old proves far too inexperienced whilst someone like Bissouma would be a far smarter transfer
