Liverpool’s Sepp van den Berg hints at making another move to Preston next year

Liverpool youngster, Sepp van den Berg, has admitted he would be open to a return to Preston North End next season after enjoying his spell there this year.

Van den Berg has been in good form for the Lancashire outfit since arriving to replace Ben Davies, who joined the Reds in January.

The 19-year-old Dutch defender faces an uphill battle to get into the Liverpool squad. Jurgen Klopp is already planning to bring in new defenders this summer, with Ibrahima Konate the main name mentioned.

And Van den Berg, speaking in the latest edition of the Preston matchday programme, appeared to hint he’d welcome a move back.

I will never forget the time I have had here and hopefully it will be next season as well, you never know. But I will follow PNE for sure,” the teenager commented.

In fairness, a move for Van den Berg may be the smartest move for the youngster. The return of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez, coupled with Nat Phillips’ emergence and the ability of Fabinho to drop in too, means his chances will be limited.

It’s an obvious observation to make but there is no point in the Dutchman staying in Liverpool if he isn’t going to play. Going back to Preston, where he has settled, makes huge sense.

Not only will he get the right experience needed to progress. But he also won’t be too far from Anfield, meaning he can firmly in touch with goings on at his parent club as well.

It will come down to Klopp at the end of the day. But in terms of deals that make sense, this is one.
