According to The Sun, Liverpool are considering making a £20 million move to sign Bordeaux attacker Francois Kamano. Striking a deal to sign the versatile 23-year-old winger would represent the Reds’ first major bit of business of the summer.
So far, teenage pair Sepp van den Berg and Harvey Elliott represent the only new arrivals at Anfield.
Considering Liverpool are the reigning European champions and finished as runners up in the Premier League last season with 97 points, it could easily be argued that they don’t need to make lots of signings this summer.
However, their rivals have strengthened. Manchester City have paid a club record fee of £62.8 million to sign Rodri. Chelsea have welcomed Christian Pulisic into their squad. Manchester United have spent big on Aaron Wan Bissaka. Arsenal have broken the bank to land Nicolas Pepe for £72 million.
What’s more, Liverpool have not enjoyed an impressive pre-season. The Reds have lost games to Borussia Dortmund, Sevilla and Napoli. They’ve also failed to keep a clean sheet in their last six pre-season outings.

Jurgen Klopp may now be feeling the pressure to add some extra quality to his ranks. This may explain the Merseyside club’s interest in Kamano. The forward is a fine player, and notched 13 goals and four assists last season. However, he is unlikely to displace any of the Reds’ first choice attacking trio, comprised of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.
With the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Xherdan Shaqiri, Harry Wilson and Divock Origi already on hand to provide back up and rotation options in the final third, it’s hard to see where Kamano might fit in. If Liverpool do force a deal through for Kamano, it could be considered a panic buy on Klopp’s part.
