Liverpool are reportedly interested in a future deal to sign Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips.
The Mirror have claimed that the 24-year-old is wanted by the Reds and also Tottenham Hotspur, after wowing for the newly promoted Whites.
Phillips was recently handed an England debut by Gareth Southgate, and the ace is taking to the Premier League superbly having already impressed in the Championship.
Jurgen Klopp has supposedly been left impressed by Phillips’ performances of late, and could make a £50 million move for the player according to the Mirror.
It’s a very early transfer claim, but one worth analysing given Phillips’ growing stature with England and in the Premier League.
One wonders if the Reds are genuinely keen. If they are, then it might be a big blow for Marko Grujic, who was sent out on loan to FC Porto earlier this month.
TBR’s View – Grujic would almost certainly depart
It was reported by a number of outlets over the summer that Liverpool actually would have preferred to offload Grujic to raise funds.
The Reds signing Phillips would effectively make the Serbian’s permanent exit from the club nailed on.
The club already landed Thiago from Bayern Munich, and there is also Fabinho whose best position is sitting in front of the defence.
There would simply be no chance of Grujic becoming an Anfield regular if Phillips was added to the mix, and so the reports of interest may just come as a blow to the star
