Liverpool’s Ovie Ejaria simply must make Reading move count

Liverpool youngster Ovie Ejaria officially completed his loan move to Reading on Monday.

The midfielder has cut short his temporary move to Rangers after scoring twice in 28 appearances.

Ejaria will now spend the next six months at the Madejski Stadium in the hope of impressing Jurgen Klopp enough to be considered for a role in the Liverpool first-team next season.

Ejaria’s Rangers stint was disappointing following a bright start. He harboured criticism for being inconsistent and struggling with the physical aspect of Scottish football.

It is his third loan move away from the club since 2016 and one gets the feeling that Reading could be make or break for the starlet.

Last chance saloon?

Ejaria, being a midfield player, is really up against it in terms of competing for regular minutes at Liverpool.

Klopp has Naby Keita, Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Gini Wijnaldum, Adam Lallana, Fabinho, Xherdan Shaqiri as options for the central area, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain nearing a return from his long-term knee injury.

While maybe a couple will be sold in the summer, it will still be difficult for Ejaria to stake his claim.

That’s why he must play out of his skin for the next sixth months at Reading, otherwise he could well be moved on.

The quality of options in midfield is so high that it’ll take a big effort from Ejaria to force Klopp to give him an opportunity.

The physicality criticisms at Rangers won’t have helped his cause, meaning he could genuinely be in the last chance saloon.
