Neco Williams has explained to Liverpool’s official website how Gareth Bale has helped him a lot during his career, and admitted that it will not be nice to face the Tottenham Hotspur forward should he feature at Anfield on Wednesday.

The Reds host Jose Mourinho’s men in a game that pits the Premier League’s top two against each other. It looks set to be a fascinating battle given that neither side was at their best at the weekend.

Arguably the most important battle will centre around how Spurs’ attackers fare against Liverpool’s defence.

Should Williams be handed a chance to feature, he could potentially be tasked with trying to keep Bale quiet.

The 31-year-old’s loan spell with Tottenham is yet to really ignite. But Williams knows how dangerous he can be, having worked alongside the forward at international level with Wales.

“Obviously he’s a top player and very experienced. When I went into the Wales senior team, he was there straight away making me comfortable and making me part of the group. He did help me a lot,” he told the club’s official website.

“Obviously he’s a top player and it’s not going to be nice playing up against him if he does play. That’s obviously one player we need to keep quiet.”

TBR View: Williams may have to wait a little longer for Bale clash

Unless Spurs lose a number of players to injury before kick-off, it looks highly unlikely that Bale will start at Anfield on Wednesday.

Jose Mourinho claimed on Tuesday that Bale is a doubt for the game after falling ill last week (via Football London).

And even if he is available, he will surely start on the bench. He has only started one Premier League game so far.

And having not featured at the weekend, it seems difficult to imagine Mourinho handing him a prominent role in such an important game.
